Welcome to

BEATBOX SAFE SPACE

Beatbox Safe Space is a nonprofit organization led by a diverse group of beatboxers and beatbox fans working to create a safer & more diverse beatbox community.  Our work ranges from handling reports about negative incidents within the community and advising organizers on them, to creating workshops and other educational resources for beatbox event organizers, artists and the general beatbox community.

Who are we?

Our team consists of a core team and an extended team. For an introduction to the full team check out our “About” page. Here is an introduction to our core team!

Rabea (Founder/Executive Director) from Germany found the beatbox community in summer 2021. Not too long after joining, she took on the co-ownership of lgbtbeatbox which got them into contact with women and queer people of the community. Listening to experiences of others at big events made her dedicate her time to creating change. People should feel safe at events and in the online community, no matter who they are.

Rose (Founder/President) from the United States has been beatboxing since she was very young and found the international community in 2016. After going to several events and spending time talking to other women in beatbox she knew something had to change. She is devoted to creating safe spaces for women and other minorities in the community, as well as the youth of beatbox, to help them enjoy the art form while developing life skills.

Linda (Sociologist) is a beatboxer from Russia. They have been in the community since 2015 and have a degree in sociology. She has met many great people in the community, some of them even becoming family to her. But the fact that they feel scared to go to any live event is one of the many reasons driving her to be more involved with creating change in the community through education and having much needed conversations.

First things first…

The values of our organization

Every nonprofit organization needs to be built on core values. We operate by the following values with Beatbox Safe Space. A full overview can be found on our “About” page.

Harm-reduction

We believe that events should be safe and risk assessments need to be made for reported individuals. Preventative measures need to be taken and we're here to give out resources for this purpose.

Restorative Justice

We believe that most sexual misconduct comes from a place of mental instability, which is why we always encourage seeking professional help and try to reduce the harm and dehumanization happening to perpetrators.

Communication

Many issues in communities stem from lack of proper communication. This is why we are committed to talk to as many people as we can within our means of time. This is the only way problems can be solved.

What we do

The core functions of our organization are diverse in nature. You will learn more about projects we execute as we build out our website & operations.

Investigating Reports

We investigate reports of misconduct within the beatbox community. This is not limited to just sexual misconduct cases.

Advising event organizers

We offer input and resources for event planning to organizers of beatbox and general hiphop events.

Supporting Survivors

We offer resources and trauma-informed communication to survivors of misconduct in the community.

Educational Content

We create social media content that explains social issues more deeply, especially in connection to our community.

In-Person Event Support

We offer in-person support for events through our extended team that reaches further across the planet.

Creating Lasting Change

We work on projects for social change within the community with infuential artists and organizers.
